E-commerce Class Suggestions

In this post, we are required to write about the E-Commerce class, and give suggestions.

Before I write the answer for this question, please allow me to clarify what is meant by e-commerce. E-commerce is not a technical jargon, it is the shortened form of electronic commerce, which means you buy or sell products over the electronic system, such as internet or computer network. I believe it is not bragging when I say everyone nowadays has been directly or indirectly involved in e-commerce. Don’t believe? Ask AirAsia how many customers buy their tickets online. Although many aunties are not computer literate, they are still able to fly themselves to Korea for mad shopping with a cheap flight ticket bought by their children/relatives/neighbors etc. Many old folks never even touch a mouse before, yet able to fly over the Pacific Ocean to pay their relatives a visit. In short, e-commerce is a ubiquitous method used everywhere to purchase items or services.

Now you get a rough picture of what is e-commerce, you can understand what I will discuss about later.

Current:
Our lecturer is currently teaching us about the types of E-commerce and also the history of e-commerce. This is undeniably a good way to build our foundation in understanding e-commerce. As the saying goes “History will repeat itself”, it is important to understand the past, as we will learn from the past mistakes to improve ourselves, and preventing ourselves from making the same mistake, but it should not be the core of the learning. In my opinion, the class should also tell us more about the current industry trends. By understanding current situation, we can start to seek opportunities among current trend and kick start our career. As we step into the society and start to develop the software, we should be able to create something that will fulfill modern society’s need. Lingering on the past will make us a person of lesser mistakes, but it will also restrict us from creativity and revolution. Fresh bloods of the industry are supposed to have splendid ideas and bring us revolutionary technologies.
Future:
We shall bear in mind that e-commerce would affect our lifestyle tremendously. People used to love walking around the mall, shopping for goodies and enjoy the feeling of having shopping bags around their arms. However, people nowadays enjoy hermit-ing at home, clicking on the items that they are interested in, while avoiding the traffic and crowd. They enjoy waiting for the parcels that they ordered without undergoing all the hustles and bustles. There has been a change in human shopping behavior and it hasn’t stop changing.  Hence, besides learning the technical part of e-commerce, we should also learn about modern mankind behavior and transformation, in order to understand what human nowadays think and act. Such information will be helpful in leading us to discover methods that will fulfill modern society’s requirements. Therefore, the faculty should arrange some classes from Faculty of Human Ecology to let us have a glimpse of human nature, so that we will build systems that are more humanized and cater human needs according to actual human behavior.

Class:
It is lucky for us(third year software engineering students) to have a class with the fourth year student of Human Development and Information Technology. They have been friendly to us since the first day of the class. We are having a great time under the lecture of Dr. Salfarina too. I do not want to sound so pretentious but the idea of preparing a short drama about e-commerce not only made me laugh like hell, but also made me aware of all e-commerce possibilities in the future. As a student, I do not have any experience of making loan application with any bank, neither I have made investment via a bank. Having the dramas not only saved us from more boring slides and sleepy morning lectures, they opened our horizon before we step into the society and deal with these adult stuff, and also revealed the funny personalities of the classmates. I am glad that I took the class this semester, it is more lively than what I thought will be, and I am proud to be a part of it.
